A concept imagined by Walt Disney himself
Sixty years ago, during the 10th Anniversary of Disneyland Resort in California in 1965, Walt Disney’s commitments were becoming increasingly numerous, making it difficult for him to attend every event he was invited to. He needed someone who could travel the world and speak on his behalf when he couldn’t be present. That’s how Julie Reihm Casaletto, a Disneyland VIP Tour Guide Cast Member, was chosen to become the very first Disney Ambassador. The program was a great success, and ever since, the tradition has continued across all Disney destinations around the world!
Engage, represent, share
Today, Disney Ambassadors represent thousands of Cast Members in Disney Parks and resorts worldwide. They attend and participate in events, keep the Disney Cast Life alive, share their stories and the magic within their communities, and represent their Disney destination as official spokespersons.
The history and reach of this program illustrate Walt Disney’s deep desire to share the Disney magic with the rest of the world. When Disneyland Paris opened in 1992, Sabine Marcon was named its first Ambassador. Since then, typically appointed for a two-year term, two Disney Ambassadors are selected to represent the talent and diversity of Cast Members at the resort at public, internal, media, and charitable events.
